Bali is a fun and very popular holiday destination for people all around the world, but we think it's ideal for families. From its beautiful sights to its super friendly people, it's hard to beat Bali as a holiday destination.

(This picture was taken WAY before getting to the viewpoint, the view gets better!)
Lahangan Sweet sunset Viewpoint or camping spot.
This spot isn't very popular yet as it is in the north of the island (close to Amed) and hard to get to unless you go by car, but the views from here are spectacular and is somewhere you can camp and wake up with the most amazing view OR take an afternoon drive to, to enjoy the sunset as a family.
Drive up the mountains until you reach this fantastic spot to watch the sunset and the volcano. Make sure you have plenty of gas when you go. Beware that the last bit is rough so you might have to get off your motorbike and walk up. The view is worth the hike. DO make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes.
Address: Banjar Dinas Gulinten, Bunutan, Kec. Abang, Kabupaten Karangasem, Bali 80852, Indonesia
Why do we like it: because the drive there is absolutely beautiful, plus the view is unmatched.
Recommended ages: as soon as your toddler is comfortable hiking 800+ meters or you're ok carrying them.

Speaking of undiscovered family friendly places in Bali.....
We had a blast doing a family tour here and it was the highlight of our time there. We drove there from Seminyak and ended up being delayed due to traffic. This is something to keep in mind when you do go, however, once there it is another side of Bali. Besides enjoying beautiful black sand beaches with a very unique surrounding, you can do sunset motorcycle or atv tours and photos. We did our tour with Aussie Bali Adventures and it was absolutely wonderful. The kids were surprisingly into it as well. Beware that you will get either muddy ( if you choose the jungle version) or sandy by the end of it. You can rinse yourself in their shop, but you maybe plan a change of clothes for the littles.
Address: Jalan Raya Pasut, Tibubiu, Kec. Kerambitan, Kabupaten Tabanan, Bali, Indonesia
Why do we like it: Incredible sunsets, beaches to yourself, fun atv activities. It also feels very local (this part of Bali is nothing like Kuta).
Recommended ages: kids of all ages can attend as long as you’re comfortable with it. For the ATV tours we do recommend going with a company like Aussie Bali Adventures who have good quality helmets and new gear for little kids as well as adults.

The Gili Islands
If you are planning a trip to Bali and if your trip isn't too short, we cannot recommend a trip to the Gili islands enough.
The Gili islands are made up of 3 beautiful tiny isles filled with charm, peace, and incredible beaches like you won’t see in many other places around the world.
How to get there:
If you decide to go to the Gili islands, there are several options but the shortest boat rides there are from Amed.
There are fast boats and regular ferries and the whole process is relatively easy even if it may seem complex when you first start researching it.
Most boats stop in all 3 Gilis (which means island) before one last stop in Lombok right before returning to Bali. Generally, the first stop is Gili T followed by Gili Air. Sometimes Gili meno is not a stop, but you can easily reach there from any of the two islands.
The costs of tickets vary per season, the cost of gas, and tour operator. In any touristy town in Bali you will see dozens of Tour offices and hotels offering tickets to the gilis. You are better off pricing a few to find the best deal possible.
Beware that a lot of tour operators will want to make you pay for a child ticket but a kid under 3 is considered an infant and will go for free as long as they seat on your lap (even if they end up getting their own seat when the boat isn’t full).
Price Range: In November 2022 we paid 200k IDR ($13 usd) one way per adult from Amed to Gili Air. It included pickup at our hotel.
Tip: Make sure you have your ID or passport with you as they will ask for this before boarding the ferry.
In the fall of 2022 we spent 2 weeks in Gili air and loved every second of it. The island is surrounded by a coral reef barrier which makes its shores very calm and shallow. This, in turn, makes for a perfect beach to visit with little kids.
We hope this list gave you some ideas of some cool things you can do with your littles in Bali. If you are headed there soon, take a look at our Bali with Tots guide, where we share absolutely everything we did and recommend for families with little kids.
