Some people think traveling with a baby is impossible, but we're here to tell you about the one essential you really need if you're planning to travel with your baby. Because of course it is possible, but the key is: how can we make it fun for everyone involved?
Yep, traveling with a baby can be a daunting task, especially if you're going solo. You want to make sure you have everything you need to keep your baby safe and comfortable. Meanwhile, you also want to make it easier for you to navigate through airports, hotels, and beaches. That's why we think a baby carrier is the BEST investment you will make as a travel mom.
Before we were team carrier, we also tried strollers of varying styles, hiking backpacks, slings, etc. But there is something different about a carrier that makes it both safe and fun for baby and fun and safe for mom.... because let's face it, who's back needs more weight to carry?
Introducing: Baby Carriers! It's the one item you need for your travels. It's versatile, comfortable, and stylish, and it will make your travels a lot easier. This is our favorite carrier out of 8 or so we've tried!
Not sure it's all that useful?
Here are some ways in which this one essential you REALLY need if you're planning to travel with your baby can help you out
Ease of carrying
Carrying your baby on your hip or in your arms can quickly become exhausting, especially if you have to do it for long periods. The Baby Carrier frees up your hands and makes it easier for you to move around with ease. We love the thought and dedication that Onya baby has put into making sure their carriers are safe for us mamas. Make sure whatever carrier you choose is ergonomically safe for both you and baby.
Boarding
It's no secret we're big fans of taking a plane to anywhere BUT Boarding a plane with a baby can be challenging. Throw in a carseat that needs to be installed and a stroller that needs to be folded and you're feeling like an octopus without tentacles. But if you baby-wear with a carrier that supports your back, you'll have your hands free to handle your luggage and navigate through the airport.
Flying solo with your baby soon? Here are 21 tips you do not want to miss out on!
The beach
If you're planning a beach vacation with your baby, a carrier is a must-have. A carrier makes a beach walk possible with a baby without having to loose access to your hands. Aren't Free hands are a super high commodity for us moms? You can take the beach gear in your hands if you're wearing your baby. You can also stroll without worrying your baby is getting too much sun, or getting too hot etc.
Working out
As a new mom, you might find it challenging to find time for workouts. But with a carrier, you can take your baby along for walks or even hikes, and get some exercise while bonding with your little one. I know a walk isn't a crazy workout, but during that first trimester a walk is so welcomed. Another bonus is that the carrier helps babies sleep so wearing them almost guarantees a nap. We love wearing the Cruise carrier for hikes or long walks ( think sightseeing) because of its breathability ( aka babies don't get as hot).
House Chores
It can be tough to get things done around the house when you have a baby who needs your attention. But with carrier, you can keep your baby close while still being able to do laundry, cook, or clean. I remember being very anxious everytime I was a few feet away from my baby during those first few months. A carrier was the best way I found to keep both baby and myself able to do things.
Some things to keep in mind for this One Essential You REALLY Need If You're Planning to Travel With Your Baby
Ease of Use
Before we found our forever carrier, we tried other slings and carriers. My problem was always how complex they were. It felt like I needed a team to help me put on the carrier and then the baby. It was exhausting. Onya carriers are super simple to use, and you can quickly adjust it to fit your body and your baby's size. We all consider "easy" something different. My suggestion is to research carriers and try some out before committing. I almost quit on carriers when my baby was 1 year old because the one I had was too complex. Now we're going on 3 and happily wear our carrier often. You want to make sure the buckles are sturdy, and the straps are comfortable, so you can wear it for hours without any discomfort.
Design
The carrier you use should be designed with your baby's comfort in mind. Make sure it provides excellent head and neck support, and that your baby's hips are properly positioned. You can also opt for something that does more than just carry, like we did! Onya carriers have the option to be a carrier AND a baby seat. Perfect for when you arrive at a restaurant and need a seat! A carrier can be used for so much more than around the house or neighborhood walks. You just have to make sure you get the right carrier for your family's needs.
Quality
Make sure your carrier is made of high-quality materials that are durable and long-lasting. Also, make sure it can be used from infancy to toddlerhood. One thing we considered when buying was what it was made of, how durable this material is, and how long the carrier can be used for. There is no use in buying a new carrier evert year. We prefer buying one or two carriers for different needs and using those from infancy until they're done wanting to be carrier.
