Flying solo with your baby can be an intimidating experience, to say the least. We know this first hand and we are not here to tell you that by reading some tips it won't be intimidating at all. However, we do believe that with the right preparation, any experience can be less scary and more fun. After all, your child is going to be your travel buddy for the next 18 years or so... so, the sooner they start enjoying this experience, the better time we will all have.
With some careful planning and preparation, you can make the journey as smooth as possible. But fear not, you won't always have to plan as much as you will for your first flight. It only gets easier.
Here are 21 tips to help you flying solo with your baby.
1. Book a direct flight to avoid the stress of changing planes and rushing to catch a connecting flight. Additionally, consider booking an aisle seat for easy access to the restroom and quick exits.
2. Consider babywearing to keep your hands free while navigating the airport. It's a great way to keep your baby close and calm during the check-in process and security screening.
3. Pack light, but pack smart. Bring only the essentials and avoid overpacking. Additionally, consider using a backpack or a hands-free bag to keep your hands free.

4. Arrive at the airport early to give yourself plenty of time to check-in, go through security, and get settled before boarding. Additionally, consider checking in online and printing your boarding pass ahead of time.
5. Take advantage of priority boarding to get settled in and avoid the rush of passengers boarding the plane. Additionally, consider requesting a bulkhead seat for more legroom and a bassinet attachment.
6. Bring enough snacks and drinks for your baby, and consider purchasing additional snacks and drinks on the plane. Additionally, consider bringing a sippy cup or a spill-proof bottle to avoid spills.
7. Pack enough diapers, wipes, and a changing pad. Additionally, consider bringing a diaper disposal bag for easy and hygienic disposal.
8. Pack enough toys, books, and other entertainment items to keep your baby occupied during the flight. Additionally, consider downloading some kid-friendly apps or shows on your mobile device or on their tablet if they have one.
If you screen record things on your phone, make sure you play it before you board the plane. If you recorded something a while ago, it tends to go to the cloud and then it won't play if you are not connected to the internet. Avoid this by playing the video before you lose access to signal/wifi.

9. Consider bringing noise-canceling headphones or earplugs for your baby to block out noise and distractions. Additionally, consider using a white noise machine or app to help your baby sleep during the flight.
10. Use a baby carrier or a stroller to transport your baby through the airport. It's a great way to keep your baby close and secure while navigating through crowds.
11. Consider bringing a portable crib or playpen for your baby to sleep in at your destination. Additionally, consider requesting a bassinet attachment on the plane if available. We are not a fan of carrying more than we have to, but this is especially true for babies who are used to their own space. If you have one of those, make sure you're covered.
12. Dress your baby in comfortable and breathable clothes suitable for the weather. We cannot stress this enough: nobody cares what your baby is wearing. Pajamas, onesies, or anything else you think will make your life easier is a go! Remember you will be changing diapers all day throughout the airport time and flight. So, dress baby with the comfort of diaper change in mind as well. Additionally, consider bringing a blanket or a jacket for extra warmth on the plane.
13. Pack a first-aid kit with essentials such as bandages, antiseptic cream, and medication. Additionally, consider bringing a thermometer and fever-reducing medication in case of a fever.
14. Bring a pacifier or a bottle for your baby to suck on during take-off and landing to help equalize the pressure in their ears. Additionally, consider breastfeeding or bottle-feeding during take-off and landing.
15. Take advantage of the in-flight amenities such as the in-flight entertainment, meal service, and amenities kit. Additionally, consider requesting additional amenities such as blankets, pillows, or earplugs if needed.

17. Take frequent breaks to stretch your legs and let your baby move around. Additionally, consider walking up and down the aisle with your baby to soothe them or help them sleep.
18. Use a baby mirror to monitor your baby while flying. It's a great way to keep an eye on your baby without turning around.
19. Pack a lightweight stroller for use at your destination. Additionally, consider checking your stroller at the gate for easy access upon arrival.
20. Stay calm and patient during the flight. Remember that your baby can sense your stress, so staying calm and relaxed can help keep your baby calm and relaxed
21. Don't be afraid to ask for help or accept help from others. Flight attendants, fellow passengers, and airport staff are often willing to lend a hand. Additionally, consider requesting assistance such as priority boarding or extra assistance getting through security.
